BEAUTE FILES: JESSICA GRAY
This Sydney based 28 year old is the girl behind the @minimalvanity Instagram account. Jess confesses that her love of beauty started in her early twenties from reading the likes of Vogue, Harpers Bazaar and Elle.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE?
JESS: My skin is mostly normal but becomes easily dehydrated, particularly in colder weather.
TSB: WHAT DOES YOUR MORNING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
JESS: My morning skincare routine is super minimal; I usually just pat on some Drunk Elephant C Firma and get dressed while it sinks in a little before moisturiser, currently Fresh Black Tea Firming Corset Cream. I’ll leave that to absorb for a few minutes (I’ll have a Berocca and take some probiotics) then do makeup and hair (quickly) and run out the door to work.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR NIGHT ROUTINE?
JESS: I double cleanse usually with a balm cleanser, currently Glam Glow Galacticleanse, then to make sure there’s no dirt or makeup leftover I’ll use a cotton pad soaked in toner. Pixi Glow Tonic does the job. I follow with Cosrx Honey Ceramide eye cream and a moisturiser. If I haven’t used the Glow Tonic I’ll use Drunk Elephant TLC a couple of nights a week. I just got Sunday Riley Luna oil so I’m currently trying that too.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRODUCT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
JESS: Exfoliator; namely Drunk Elephant TLC. It improves the texture and clarity of my skin, makes it glow, allows my other skincare to do its thing much more effectively and makeup sits better.
TSB: WHATS ON YOUR BEAUTY WISH LIST AT THE MOMENT?
TSB: WHATS YOUR BEAUTY ADVICE?
JESS: Always remove your makeup at the end of the day, it really does make a difference.
TSB: WHAT IS YOU GO-TO MAKE UP LOOK?
JESS: Minimal but put-together. I focus on base, which I like to be glowy but not shiny and usually medium to high coverage. I recently bought the Make Up For Ever Invisible Cover Stick and I’m in love. After base, I’ll do a nude lip and when I have the time; I’ll do deep brown eyeliner or shadow smudged into the lash line.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE SCENT?
JESS: As much as I want to be a signature scent person, I inevitably discover another that I love. Byredo Mojave Ghost is a definite top 3 though.
TSB: WHO IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY DO YOU ADMIRE AND WHY?
JESS: I’m always inspired by people who work hard; she may be a little polarising but I love Jen Atkin’s story of how she achieved what she has and I can’t not mention Pat McGrath; her skills are pure sorcery and she seems so genuine.
