TSB: WHAT IS YOUR SKIN TYPE?
H: Normal... dehydrated... prone to breakouts, but super sensitive and some allergies.
TSB: WHAT DOES YOUR MORNING ROUTINE LOOK LIKE?
H: I wake up at 6am every day and start with coffee and a breakfast smoothie while I read the news. I don’t cleanse, but I always use an antioxidant serum, eye cream, moisturiser, and SPF on my face, neck, and chest. At the moment, it would be the Asarai Response Theory Serum, Zelens eye cream, Sunday Riley Tidal moisturiser, which is divine, like a cooling drink of water for your face, and Dr Dennis Gross SPF. I get dressed, take my vitamins, then head off. I like to listen to podcasts and do my makeup on my commute - I use the It Cosmetics CC cream for my base mixed with Charlotte Tilbury Hollywood Flawless Filter, Jillian Dempsey Cheek tint in Petal, Fluff bronzer (it gives the best natural, sunburnt tan), Marc Jacobs eyeshadow in a matte peach usually, and Kevyn Aucoin mascara, which never smudges. Oh, and brows are a whole other thing... I have the Surratt brow pomade first, for volume, then Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows for more volume and tint, then I fill in the gaps with a super old MAC eyeshadow in Copperplate and the Anastasia Beverly Hills no.12 brush. Once that’s done, I can take on anything.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR NIGHT ROUTINE?
H: Once I get home from my day job, I need some time to decompress my mind so I try to meditate for a half hour, go for an evening walk while the sun’s not too strong, then I’m RUNNING to the bathroom to take off that makeup. There’s nothing like a good cleanse. I start with a gel to oil cleanser - my favourite is the Asarai Come Clean because of the texture! It melts onto your face, destroying all the makeup with no effort. I remove it with a warm microfibre washcloth (the microfibre attracts extra dirt and makeup), then go in with my second cleanser. I like a gentle cream cleanse that’s not going to strip my dehydrated skin, and right now that’s the Stratia Skin Velvet Cleansing Milk. I need all of my cleansers to be fragrance-free or I get blotchy and break out, and this one soothes on contact. The next step is either a mask, exfoliant, or hydrating serum, depending on what my skin needs. Most days it’s just a Hydrating Serum from Dr Dennis Gross. I had some bad acne earlier in the year and my approach ever since has just been super gentle. Next is my Dr Roebuck’s Tassie serum, which I use every night without fail. It has vitamins B3, A and C. As we age our skin can’t take care of itself like it used to... so this keeps my skin fresh. Next is my Dr Dennis Gross eye cream, also preventative, and I moisturise with Tidal again. I sleep in a lip balm from Le Labo as well. If you haven’t tried sleeping in lip balm, you need to.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR NUMBER ONE PRODUCT YOU CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT?
H: Oil cleanser forever, preferably my beloved Asarai.
TSB: WHAT’S ON YOUR BEAUTY WISH LIST AT THE MOMENT?
H: I have my eye on the Molecular Multi-Nutrient Day Cream from Allies of skin - I feel like I could skip the antioxidant serum and just use that one in the mornings this way.
TSB: WHATS YOUR BEAUTY ADVICE?
H: Be gentle (to yourself, and to others) and always love yourself.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR GO-TO FACE MASK?
H: NIOD Flavanone Mud, it decongests and brightens like nothing else. All other masks pale in comparison, I promise you that. It can clear up a breakout and energise the skin in ten minutes flat.
TSB: WHAT IS YOU GO-TO MAKE UP LOOK?
H: Fresh, bronzed, freckles, and lashes for days.
TSB: WHAT IS YOUR SIGNATURE SCENT?
H: DS& Durga Rose Atlantic. It’s HEAVEN. It’s a sexy, salty, citrus rose that’s incredible on skin
TSB: IF YOU HAD TO CHOOSE…SKINCARE OR MAKEUP?
H: Skincare forever
